Jimmy Kimmel Roasts Spencer Pratt’s Run for Mayor: ‘Exactly What Donald Trump Did’
Emily Zemler · 2026-05-28 · via Rolling Stone

Not Again

"The difference between Donald Trump and this guy is Donald Trump actually had a job before he was on a reality show"

Jimmy Kimmel focused on the upcoming primary election in Los Angeles on the latest episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live, calling it a “very LA race for mayor.”

“Let’s be honest, this city is a mess,” Kimmel said. “That is something that became especially obvious during the fires. But the people running the city—when you say ‘This city is a mess,’ they go, ‘No, actually it isn’t and we’re doing a lot.’ And then we look around and say, ‘I’m not seeing it.'”

He added, “And this makes the people who live here upset. Especially people whose homes and neighborhoods burned down, who are trying to run businesses with people who need help sleeping in front of the doors of their restaurants because they have nowhere else to go. They’re frustrated because nothing seems to change.”

Enter Spencer Pratt, who is running for mayor after losing his house in the fires last year. “So then you get a guy who was on a reality show, who’s on a lot of reality shows,” Kimmel explained. “His profession is to be the screaming jerk on reality shows. And his house burns down. And even though he had no private insurance on his house and doesn’t believe in climate change, he’s understandably upset about his house burning down.”

Kimmel noted that Pratt has gotten attention since he’s a “moderately famous person,” including being on the news and getting traction on social media. The host explained that for the first time in his life Pratt has people agreeing with what he’s saying.

“It’s hard not to agree with what he has to say,” Kimmel said. “He’s angry about the same problems a lot of people here are angry about. Does he have solutions to those problems? No.”

Pratt, as Kimmel observed, has started to “really enjoy the attention.” “He starts to think, ‘I should be mayor,’ which is a statement that should make everyone laugh,” Kimmel said. “But not everyone is laughing. Not everyone sees this as a joke.”

A contingent of voters is supporting Pratt, including giving him money for the campaign. But Kimmel isn’t sure Pratt even actually wants to be the mayor. “You think this guy wants to sit through city council meetings all day talking about zoning?” he asked. “No. He wants to be a star again. And guess what? It’s working. He’s everywhere. … It’s exactly what Donald Trump did. Donald Trump didn’t think he could actually be president.”

Kimmel continued, “Donald Trump ran for president because his TV show was going to get cancelled and he wanted to be relevant again. Now, the difference between Donald Trump and this guy is Donald Trump actually had a job before he was on a reality show. He wasn’t good at the job. He got all the money for it from his dad. The only thing he was good at was promoting himself and it turned out that was enough. And as a result we are now going to have to spend the last three decades digging out of this giant hole he put us in. But this hole, now, has given birth to Spencer Pratt.”

The host described Pratt as “another narcissist looking for attention” and urged people not to repeat “that mistake we made with Trump in LA of all places.” “Mayor should not be your first job,” he affirmed. “You got to be kidding me with this.”
