More Confessions

The pop icon will partake in a conversation with Jimmy Fallon after the premiere

Pop icon Madonna is set to make a high-profile return to the Tribeca Festival this summer with a new cinematic project tied to her forthcoming studio album, Confessions II.

The project is described as a “cinematic experience” inspired by, and built around, the first six tracks of Confessions II, including “I Feel So Free” and “Bring Your Love,” featuring Sabrina Carpenter. Madonna will premiere the film Friday, June 5 at the Beacon Theatre in New York City.

Directed by David Toro and Solomon Chase, Confessions II runs just over 10 minutes and will feature a classic Madonna-esque blend of music, fashion, nightlife imagery, and surreal visual storytelling. A press release described the film as “a transcendent journey that catapults the viewer through a fucked-up night out that’s remembered not for what happened, but for how it felt.”

It goes on to describe scenes in which Madonna is “ambushed, pursued, and ultimately worshipped by a roving squad of camera-wielding femmes. From the bedroom to the club bathroom, to the car, to the arena, and even into nature, they cruise the many spaces in which music thrives.”

Following the premiere, Madonna, Toro, and Chase will participate in an exclusive conversation with Jimmy Fallon.

“Madonna has spent decades proving that reinvention is its own art form,” Tribeca Festival Co-Founder Jane Rosenthal said in a statement. “Confessions II feels immersive, provocative, and completely of the moment, while still channeling the kind of nightlife mythology only she could create. We are thrilled to welcome Madonna back to Tribeca.”

The appearance marks Madonna’s first major Tribeca Festival event since 2008, when she attended the world premiere of the documentary I Am Because We Are. Madonna wrote, produced, and narrated the Nathan Rissman-directed documentary, which focused on AIDS orphans in Malawi.

Madonna is set to release Confessions II on July 3 via Warner Records. The album is a sequel to the pop star’s 2005 album, Confessions on a Dance Floor, while it also makes her first LP since 2019’s Madame X.
