The two country queens delivered the song during Musgraves’ final show of her three-night Gruene Hall residency
It really is all whiskey under the bridge for Kacey Musgraves and Miranda Lambert. On Tuesday night, the two country queens sang the live debut of their collaboration “Horses and Divorces,” which is featured on Musgraves’ new LP Middle of Nowhere. It was only right for Musgraves to bring out her fellow Texan during the final night of her three-night residency at Gruene Hall in New Braunfels, Texas.
“Well, you know, us East Texas girls gotta stick together, right, Miranda?” Musgraves said to introduce Lambert, according to fan videos from the night. The pair hugged before the “Dry Spell” singer asked, “Is this a dream? Is this really happening?” Lambert responded with an emphatically: “Tonight we bury the hatchet right here in Gruene Hall!”

The pair dove into a faithful rendition of “Horses and Divorces,” delivering lyrics like “And a few years ago you’d have set me on fire,” with a dramatic flair. Lucky attendees at Gruene Hall cheered as the two country singers cemented their peace treaty onstage. Fans online compared the song, and its performance, to the culture-shifting moment when Charli XCX and Lorde squashed their beef on 2024’s “Girl, So Confusing.” In a way, it is the country version of that collaboration.
The drama between Musgraves and Lambert goes back to 2013. Back then, there was rumored resentment between the two after Musgraves wrote Lambert’s hit “Mama’s Broken Heart” for her own first LP, but reluctantly gave it up to Lambert. With “Horses and Divorces,” the two teamed up to sing about their common ground and put any past issues behind them. “It was very full circle in so many ways,” Musgraves said in a recent interview. “We aired out any of the old laundry. We had some laughs and wrote the song in a matter of a few hours.”
