Samsung Electronics Vietnam Thai Nguyen (SEVT) has become the first company in Vietnam to officially purchase renewable electricity through the country’s Direct Power Purchase Agreement (DPPA). Located in Thái Nguyên province, SEVT completed negotiations and signed Vietnam’s first DPPA contract conducted through the national power grid, enabling the company to directly source renewable electricity for its manufacturing operations.
Under the agreement, SEVT will receive approximately 70 GWh of solar-generated electricity annually. This volume is equivalent to the average yearly electricity consumption of around 17,000 Vietnamese households and is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 46,000 tons per year.
The renewable electricity supplied to SEVT will be generated by the Đức Huệ 2 solar power plant, a facility located in Tây Ninh province with a design capacity of 49 MWp/41.4 MWAc, and will contribute to increasing the share of renewable energy within Vietnam’s national electricity mix.
With consultation from Schneider Electric, a global energy consulting company, the agreement demonstrates how global manufacturers can successfully secure renewable energy through direct purchasing arrangements while supporting broader energy transition efforts.
The agreement also forms part of Samsung Electronics Vietnam’s wider renewable energy strategy. Prior to this project, Samsung Electronics Vietnam (SEV) in Bắc Ninh and Samsung Electronics HCMC CE Complex (SEHC) in Hồ Chí Minh City expanded their use of renewable energy through on-site rooftop solar installations in 2025. Both entities are now working to further increase renewable electricity procurement through additional DPPA-based power supply arrangements.
