So some (not all) of my .rar files on my computer are being turned into .zips. I cannot get a clear answer from google if this happens at all or anything, so could anyone tell me if this is normal? Not incredibly tech savvy, so I'm sorry if this sounds stupid.

Some programs or Windows features might automatically extract or convert compressed files if they’re associated with specific software, or if there’s an automatic extraction setting enabled.
If you have a program that handles archives (like WinRAR, 7-Zip, WinZip), it might be set to create or extract ZIP files by default.
Sometimes, if you double-click a .rar file, a program might extract it into a ZIP archive instead of opening it.
