Portable Refrigerator

Pros

  • Extra features for portability
  • Easy-to-use app
  • Dual compartments

Cons

  • Minor temp discrepancy between app and interior

This portable fridge from Bodega has great build quality, convenient features for easy portability, and cools down fast. The compressor can cool the interior down to 32 degrees Fahrenheit in about 30 minutes.

It has two separate compartments to keep things organized. They can’t be individually controlled but the smaller section typically gets cooler than the larger side. It also has a user-friendly app for setting the temperature and a USB port to charge other devices. Some customers report minor differences between the temperature they see on the app versus the actual internal temperature, but say it’s only off by a couple degrees.

The portable refrigerator has sturdy handles and a built-in LED light so you can quickly find what you need in the dark. Standout features include wheels and a drain plug—two things that are standard on most larger coolers but something a lot of portable fridges lack. The lid can be opened from either side or popped off entirely for fast loading.

Portable Refrigerator

Pros

  • Tall, slim design fits easier behind car seats
  • User-friendly app
  • Removable handles

Cons

  • App doesn’t have many features

This portable refrigerator is a great value for efficient cooling, a low power draw, and large capacity. The 59-quart space is split into two zones for easy organizing and the unit comes with a removable wire basket.

Its tall, slender shape fits easily behind a row of seats in the car. The handles are also removable to make for easy stowing. The app lets you set and monitor temps, though you can’t do much else. Some users report the app is user-friendly but wish it had more features.

C30 Portable Refrigerator

Pros

  • Has an automatic shut off function to save battery
  • Interior light for convenience

Cons

  • Included manual isn’t helpful

The Alpicool is a budget portable refrigerator that cools down fast to roughly zero degrees Fahrenheit and operates quietly in comparison to most other models.

It has an automatic shutoff to ensure it doesn’t drain your car or portable battery and eco mode that pulls less energy. An external LCD display and control panel shows you the interior temperature. This budget option also has an LED light inside and a drain plug.

Setup is rather easy but the included manual doesn’t show you how to convert from Celsius to Fahrenheit. The brand’s website has a detailed owner’s manual that's more helpful.

ICF 32 Electric Compressor Cooler

Pros

  • Easy, built-in controls
  • Comes with removable divider for internal organization

Cons

  • Does not have a connected app for remote control

Thinking of Igloo might still conjure the image of the old-school Playmate cooler you had as a kid. But the ICF electric cooler is anything but that. The portable refrigerator has a sturdy plastic build that can handle the bumps and bruises that come with transporting it to sporting events, grocery stores, and campgrounds.

Its spacious interior works as one large storage space or, with the help of the included removable divider, two separate areas. This helps separate dry items like canned drinks from wet items like fruit and sandwiches. The ICF is also remarkably simple. All the controls are built right onto the body, so all you have to do is turn it on and set the temperature.

Like other portable refrigerators, the ICF has a three-stage battery protection system to prevent it from draining your car battery.

CRD2 V2.0 43-Quart Portable Fridge

Pros

  • Roller wheels and handle for easy transport
  • A battery (sold separately) means this can run without an external power source

Cons

  • Right zone is much smaller than the left

With a wheeled base and telescopic handles, this portable fridge from BougeRV is a well-built mix between portability and size. The interior comes with two separate sections. You can tune each to different temperatures, allowing you to have both a functional fridge and freezer at the same time.

One of the more user-friendly features the CRD2 has is an opening for a standalone battery. While sold separately, the battery allows the cooler to operate without any large power source, like a wall outlet or car, nearby. With the attached battery, the portable fridge can run for up to 20 hours with no other power source, making it an ideal way to escape to the beach or sleep overnight in the woods away from your car and still wake up to fresh produce and unspoiled milk.

  • Recessed handles are convenient
  • Option to add rechargeable battery

Cons

  • Temp read can be off by more than a couple degrees
  • No app

The Bouge comes in a compact package that can serve as a personal cooler for a remote overnight, or extra storage on long treks. It has a single compartment that works as a fridge or freezer.

Set the temperature from the external control panel and monitor through the LCD thermometer. There’s no app to keep tabs on the temperature while driving but customers report it stays consistent even in hotter ambient temps. Recessed handles add to its space-saving design.

Some reviews mention the external thermometer can be off as much as seven degrees—a bit higher than most other models.

Rigel 25 Dual-Zone eCooler

Pros

  • Two-way reversible lid
  • A removable divider splits the Rigel into two separate compartments and comes out if you want one larger space

Cons

  • Many perks such as internal baskets or external shelf are sold separately

The Travoca Rigel eCooler has a number of small, but notable, features that intrigued us right away. For one, it’s somewhat modular. You can unscrew the wood paneling on the front and replace it with attachments such as a small shelf for placing drinks or snacks.

The lid is fully detachable and reversible, so you can pop the whole thing off and get a full look at everything inside. Beyond this, dual-zone cooling is powerful. Each section can work as either a fridge or freezer.

And if you don’t need separate sections, the internal divider comes out, converting the entire interior to one large space at the same temperature. Travoca also sells internal baskets separately for easier organization.

CFX3 100-Liter Portable Refrigerator

Pros

  • Low power draw
  • Excellent cooling
  • Durable build

Dometic is the best-known brand of portable refrigerators, with a reputation for turning out models that are durable and reliable With that comes the higher price tag, but overlanders and outdoor enthusiasts are still fans—I see this one touted most in forums as the main fridge people use while traveling on long remote treks.

It’s on the heavier side at 60 pounds when empty, but its compressor is more powerful than other models on this list—and it operates quietly.

The portable refrigerator has a sleek display and an intuitive app to set and keep tabs on the interior temperature, plus a USB port for charging for mobile devices.
