With the current consumer drone ban in the U.S. limiting our access to new drones from basically every brand we know and trust, it isn’t easy to find quality options that are available, and it’s even harder to find a deal. But this week, during Amazon Prime Day, we’ve found a few. The sale, which runs until Friday, June 26, has a decent number of drones on sale, including a few of the ones we’ve tested and recommended.
While DJI is the brand everyone knows and loves, we’ve found a couple of other brands that we really like, including HoverAir, which makes an affordable, easy-to-use line of drones that’s perfect for new pilots who want to give flying a try. We already recommend the brand’s basic model, the HoverAir X1, as our “best value” pick in our guide to drones, and now that it’s 20 percent off for Prime Day, we think it’s an absolute steal.
The X1 drone has a foldable design so it closes like a book. In its closed form, it easily slides into a pants pocket, which makes it easy to bring it anywhere and everywhere. It’s also very easy to fly, with several preprogrammed flight modes. You can press a single button and it will automatically fly a specific pattern or follow a video subject, without any need for a controller. It’s perfect for active adventures like kayaking, snowboarding, or biking.
The propellers of the drone are close to the body and encased in an outer frame made of durable, elastic material. So, when you eventually crash it into a tree or drop it from your bag, nothing is going to break. Believe me, I tried.
