After years oftesting window AC units, I’m happy to say I now live in an apartment with central air conditioning. Unfortunately, oppressive summer heat and the fact that I run hot means I still get sweaty even while at rest. Which is why I’m scouring Amazon Prime Day for tower fans that are quiet, compact, and (hopefully) not ugly.
I wish I could sleep with one of those giant industrial fans that could blow back a small dog, but they’re too big for my apartment. I’m also a light sleeper—even some ceiling fans wake me up at night. In my search for the quietest models available, bladeless fans are always recommended as the way to go.
Similar to the window ac vs. portable ac conundrum, it’s not a matter of ‘which is better’, but instead ‘which is better for you?’. Bladed fans deliver a strong airflow that’s direct and powerful, but can also be inconsistent. Not to mention, bladed fans are generally more cumbersome because the blades take up a good amount of space. Bladeless fans deliver a consistent, gentle stream of air so they’re a great addition for an AC-cooled room that needs extra umph.
Reviews Editor Tim Kohut highly recommends the Dreame Bladeless Fan, which is currently $100 off. He says it ended up saving him money by reducing his use of his 14,000 BTU window AC unit. Dyson (for some, the “Gold Standard” of bladeless fans) has its Cool Tower fan marked down 43% saving you $170.
For those that want to beat the heat during the work day, there’s the Konsiden Desk Fan for just $30. The compact size works just as well on an end table in the living room or on your bedside table for spot-focused stream of cool air.
