These Lawn Sweepers are Perfect For Clearing Leaves Right Now and Grass Clippings Next Spring

44-Inch Tow-Behind Lawn Sweeper

Pros

  • 3-year warranty
  • Extended hopper handle
  • Universal hitch

Cons

  • Bulky size is not practical for those low on storage space

This Agri-Fab model combines an efficient, 44-inch sweeping width with a relatively high hopper capacity, making it our best choice overall.

Our favorite feature of this lawn sweeper is the extended hopper handle, which is long enough to reach and operate without dismounting your tractor. This way, you can dump your leaf load wherever you like and continue sweeping, saving time and energy.

The universal fit hitch means you don’t need to worry about compatibility with your existing tractor or mower. Thanks to a collapsible hopper and folding hitch, it is convenient to store against a wall.

42-Inch Tow-Behind Lawn Sweeper

Pros

  • Universal hitch
  • 10-inch brush diameter
  • Never-flat tires

Cons

  • Small hopper considering the width

If you’re not comfortable shelling out $400, $500, or $600 for a tow-behind lawn sweeper, this budget-friendly Yard Commander model is a great option.

Despite the relatively low price, it still offers 42 inches of sweeping width and has a universal hitch that should fit almost any ATV or lawn tractor. At 73 pounds, this is also one of the lighter tow-behind options on our list, and naturally more convenient to store and maneuver when you’re not towing it.

A pull-string dumping mechanism looks to be convenient to operate, and a large adjustment lever changes the brush height.

50-Inch Extra-Wide Tow-Behind Lawn Sweeper

Pros

  • Compatible with all tractor brands
  • Durable steel construction
  • Fiberglass reinforced nylon wheels
  • Easy to assemble

The 11-inch-diameter brushes of this Ohio Steel sweeper are arranged in a spiral—as opposed to straight—orientation, which puts less stress on the internal gears. This should result in a longer lifespan with fewer maintenance issues. There are also fiberglass-reinforced nylon wheels to support the body.

A nylon rope makes for quick and easy hopper emptying, and the wide chute reduces the chances of frustrating and time-consuming clogs. Like many lawn sweepers on our list, it’s compatible with all tractor brands.

52-Inch Tow-Behind Lawn Sweeper

Pros

  • Large hopper
  • Wide sweeping path
  • User-friendly release rope

Cons

  • Bulky and may be cumbersome to store

If you’ve got a large yard and want to ensure you’re sweeping as efficiently as possible, consider this extra-wide, 52-inch Agri-Fab lawn sweeper. The six 10-inch diameter brushes can easily handle dry leaves, grass clippings, or even pine cones.

A convenient release rope also simplifies unloading the hopper without getting off your tractor. However, this wide size is bulkier than most, so ensure you have enough space in your garage or tool shed before purchasing.

26-Inch Push Lawn Sweeper

Pros

  • Light weight is comfortable to operate
  • Rust-resistant construction
  • Durable steel frame

Not everyone has the luxury of owning a riding mower. With a 26-inch sweep path, this Agri-Fab push model provides an impressive amount of efficiency without needing a separate lawn tractor. Its collapsible hopper has 7 cubic feet of space, and the entire unit folds up for convenient storage when not in use.

Weighing just 25 pounds, this sweeper is substantially lighter than tow-behind options, and along with the extra-wide handle, is comfortable to maneuver and operate. The steel frame is built with durability in mind, and Agri-Fab’s three-year limited warranty has you covered if any manufacturing issues arise.

26-Inch Push Lawn Sweeper

Pros

  • Lightweight
  • Easy to maneuver around tight curves and landscaping
  • Brush depth is easy to adjust

Cons

  • Smaller collection bag
  • Some plastic parts

If you have a small yard, then you don’t need to invest hundreds of dollars in a tow-behind lawn sweeper. (Or thousands in a lawn tractor to pull it.) This compact Scotts sweeper should be able to get the job done, and, at less than 20 pounds, it’s one of the easiest to push around. Its sweeping path is narrow, 26 inches, but that makes it more maneuverable, so it’s great for getting around trees and landscaping features. There’s also an easy-to-access height adjustment knob on the front, which quickly sets the sweeper up to collect grass at any height or any type of debris.

The Scotts sweeper has a few limitations, though. Its 4.5-cubic-foot collection bag is smaller than most, so be prepared to pause more frequently to empty the bag. Long-term, it’s made with more plastic parts than we’d like, which may impact its lifespan. As a result, we only recommend it for light sweeping to keep it running as long as possible.

44-Inch Tow-Behind Lawn Sweeper

Pros

  • Large collection bag
  • Can offset for simultaneous cutting and pick up
  • Four adjustable brushes make for efficient grass collection

Cons

  • Large frame makes it less maneuverable

If your weekly lawn care routine involves raking up mounds of grass clippings, then you may want to try John Deere’s tow-behind lawn sweeper, which is especially effective for clearing cut grass clippings. Most lawn sweepers are designed to collect the clippings after you finish mowing the lawn, but this model features a hitch that lets you offset the lawn sweeper to the left or right of your lawn tractor, allowing you to collect grass clippings as you go. That way, you don’t have to go back over the same strip a second time to collect them.

It’s equipped with a very large 25-cubic-foot collection bag, so it’s ready for big jobs. Plus, the bag is designed to let air pass through it, which helps it fill evenly without leaving empty air pockets. The handle extends for easier carrying and emptying once the bag is finally full. We’re all looking to clear leaves in the fall, but this sweeper is a long-play that will pay big dividends next spring.
