We've tested a bunch of grills going into summer, and some of our favorites are currently on sale ahead of Memorial Day Weekend. The official kickoff to summer is a couple of weeks away but you can score up to almost 50% off a new grill right now. From kamado, portable grills, and charcoal grills to electric and pellet smokers, you can upgrade your outdoor cooking setup and save money in the process.
Nothing beats the charbroiled taste of a burger at a summer barbecue, and the best way to achieve it is with a charcoal grill. They take slightly more effort than propane grills, but it’s worth it.
Weber’s iconic Kettle Grill can be your base of operation or serve as a secondary grill to a larger setup to keep a crowd fed. If you need extra prep space, snag Oklahoma Joe’s Blackjack, which features a side prep table and full bottom rack.
A solid setup that costs less than $100 is the Dnkmor Charcoal grill. This no-frills barrel grill has two side vents, a prep table, and a bottom shelf for storage. With 500-square inches of cooking surface, it’s an excellent mid-size option and even better at almost 50% off.
If you want convenience, we don’t blame you: Propane grills save you the hassle of waiting for charcoal to heat up and only require brushing the grates for cleaning—there’s no ash to dump out.
I’m a huge fan of Weber’s Spirit grills. The brand has been making them since the ’80s, and it’s the perfect gas grill for both beginners and avid outdoor cooks. It has shelves for prepping food and a cabinet for stashing the propane tank. The 3-burner surface can handle a family or small party, and doesn’t take up much space.
I get most excited about a good smoker, and the best-known name in the game is Traeger: They’re supremely easy to use and don’t have you fussing with vents to maintain steady temperatures. I also highly recommend Recteq pellet smokers. They have exceptional build quality, are user-friendly, and are backed by great customer service. It’s Bullseye Deluxe is a great compact option for those wanting to start their smoking journey.
Vertical (sometimes called locker) smokers are great for smoking large portions of meat at once. Cuisinart’s Electric smoker has three adjustable shelves to accommodate brisket, ribs, or a whole chicken. For under $100, you can get the Vivohome Smoker, which doubles as a grill. You’ll have to monitor it more closely since you’re working with vents and fuel to hold a steady temperature, but it’s a rewarding labor of love.
