Major General Mathews Jacob, Pro Vice Chancellor (Health Sciences) of Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE)

Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) has appointed Major General Mathews Jacob as its Pro Vice Chancellor (Health Sciences).

Jacob brings over 36 years of service in the Armed Forces Medical Services, Pune, with experience spanning clinical care, medical education, research and healthcare leadership. An accomplished Anaesthesiologist and Critical Care Specialist, he has contributed extensively to patient care in high-acuity environments and to strengthening healthcare delivery systems.

He holds an MBBS and MD in Anaesthesiology and Critical Care from the Armed Forces Medical College, Pune, along with a DNB in Anaesthesiology and Membership of the National Academy of Medical Sciences.

His additional qualifications include an Executive Postgraduate Diploma in Hospital Administration from Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai; a Postgraduate Diploma in Medical Law and Ethics from National Law School of India University, Bengaluru; Fellowship of the American College of Emergency Medicine Experts; certification in Geriatric Medicine; and training in Strategic Defence Management.

A media statement said he has authored more than 35 publications in national and international journals and has guided several postgraduate dissertations.
