After Galgotias University faced criticism at the AI Summit Expo for showcasing a commercially available Chinese robotic dog as an in-house innovation, Wipro also drew scrutiny for displaying a similar robot. Sources familiar with the matter, however, said Wipro’s demo focused on its InspectAI solution, not the robot itself.

The robot, presented by the university as Orion, was identified by observers as Unitree Go2 developed by Chinese robotics company Unitree, triggering a broader controversy at the India AI Impact Summit. On the other hand, Wipro, on its website, shared that InspectAI brings computer vision models for addressing the visual inspection, labelling and surveillance needs of various industries.

Speaking to the media at the expo, Wipro said “TJ can go where it’s risky for human beings to enter. We can carry out inspections with this robot. It has an in-built AI model which can detect harmful scenarios like rusting and prevent the possibility of accidents.”

InspectAI essentially collects data from inspection sources, including UAVs, magnetic crawlers and various imaging assets like spectral, LiDAR and other advanced cameras. Operators can plan the image-capture path and replay previously recorded inspection paths.

Wipro explained on its website that InspectAI provides an effective means of inspecting and capturing valuable data from field assets. The solution helps create a digital data platform, enabling proactive asset management, while increasing the overall safety on rigs and other assets.

Its integrated platform can gather data from drones, cameras and crawlers. InspectAI can then process and analyse these multisource inputs using AI to identify anomalies related to surface conditions such as corrosion, substrate, missing parts and the detection of foreign objects.
