Veranda Learning’s commerce vertical is gearing up for a listing by the first quarter of FY27 at a valuation as high as $1 billion.
In an interaction with businessline, Suresh Kalpathi, Executive Director and Chairman, Veranda Learning Solutions, said the company expects the demerged vertical, which includes JK Shah Classes, to be a leader in the commerce education domain, targeting an EBITDA of around ₹200 crore.
He added that having a separate entity will enable the company to take a more focused approach to the high-demand commerce segment.
“The financial services industry is growing at a rapid pace, not just through internal demand, but through offshoring from global players and there is a need for top-tier talent in this sector. We believe that this would require single-minded focus, with dedicated professionals and teams operating in this vertical alone,” he said.
Veranda Learning Solutions currently has a footprint in four verticals, including K12 education, Government Test Prep, Commerce Test Prep, and Vocational training. Under its Veranda 2.0 strategy, it had sold its vocational training business to SNVA EduTech, acquiring a 50 per cent stake in the latter, and is now in the process of demerging its commerce vertical.
Looking ahead, Kalpathi said the company is no longer planning acquisitions and is entering a phase of consolidation and extracting maximum value from its verticals. It is also looking to expand its K12 and test prep offerings to the northern and eastern markets this year.
With regard to the company’s planned entry into study-abroad services and pre-school acquisitions, Kalpathi said these plans have now been dropped though Veranda is exploring developing its own pre-school brand internally.
He said traction for AI-related programmes has gone up significantly over the last 2-3 years, and now contribute over 30 per cent of the edtech’s revenues. These courses are available across product lines, including certification programmes, diplomas and degrees, and have replaced much of the traditional full stack courses, he said.
Kalpathi said the organisation is also leveraging AI within its own operations, including developing multilingual courses, creating study material, and also in customer support, SEO and marketing functions.
