Government’s target to achieve 100 GW of nuclear power by 2047 would require world-class engineering talent and the design centre will address the challenge, says IIT Hyderabad.

The Indian Institute of Technology (Hyderabad) will set up ‘CODENE’, the country’s first Centre of Design Excellence in Nuclear Engineering.

The institute signed a tripartite memorandum of understanding with CEEPL India and Dassault Systèmes at Bharat Innovates 2026 in Nice, France, on Monday.

“The Shanti Act opened India’s civil nuclear sector to private participation, and the Government’s target to achieve 100 GW of nuclear power by 2047. This would require world-class engineering talent,” an IIT-H said in a post on X.

The proposed centre will address the challenge.

Prof BS Murty, Director, IIT Hyderabad, stated that IIT Hyderabad and IIT Jammu, in collaboration with Crimson Energy, are exploring possibilities to set up the country’s first Microreactor. This will help provide hands-on research experience in reactor physics and advanced nuclear systems.
