Mayor Sergei Sobyanin reported on his Telegram channel that more than 30 drones were shot down on approach to Moscow between midnight and noon on May 7. No casualties or damage were reported; the posts said only that “emergency services personnel were working at the sites where debris had fallen.”

The locations where the drones were intercepted were not specified. The independent Telegram channel Astra published eyewitness videos on the morning of May 7 showing explosions in Naro-Fominsk in the Moscow Region. The target of the attack was believed to be a Defense Ministry logistics complex.

Flight restrictions were imposed at Moscow airports amid the drone threat. By midday, roughly 100 flights had been canceled or delayed at Vnukovo, Domodedovo, and Sheremetyevo — departures and arrivals alike — the Moskva news agency reported.

Russia’s Defense Ministry announced around 8:00 a.m. that 347 Ukrainian drones had been intercepted overnight on May 7. That figure is not an absolute record but is close to one, the financial news outlet The Bell reported. After that summary was published, Sobyanin reported several additional drones shot down. Reports of drone strikes also came in from other parts of Russia, including from Perm.

On May 4, Russia’s Defense Ministry announced that a ceasefire would be declared on May 8 and 9 by decision of Vladimir Putin “in honor of Victory Day celebrations.” Zelensky responded by announcing a truce, which would begin on May 6. Although Russia had not said it agreed to observe the truce, Ukrainian authorities said that Moscow had violated it.
