Russia’s Justice Ministry has added Ivan Tolstoy, a philologist and literary historian who is a grandson of the Russian and Soviet writer Alexei Tolstoy, to its registry of “foreign agents.”

The ministry stated that Tolstoy had spread false information about decisions made by Russian public authorities and their policies, and had spoken out against Russia’s “special military operation” in Ukraine.

Also added to the updated registry were electoral expert Roman Udot; Vasily Matenov, founder of the public group “Asians of Russia”; civic activist Rizvan Kubakaev; Liliya Vezhevatova, an activist with the Feminist Anti-War Resistance; and the project “Tatar Shurasy.”
