Ukrainian forces strike Sevastopol, Voronezh, and Taganro...

Ukrainian forces struck southern Russia and Russian-occupied Crimea with drones and missiles overnight on May 27.

Air defenses in Sevastopol began repelling the attack around 1 a.m., said Mikhail Razvozhaev, the Russia-appointed governor. The city was targeted with drones and Storm Shadow missiles, he said.

One of the missiles hit the building housing the Southern branch of Russia’s central bank, setting the roof ablaze. The blast wave damaged a neighboring eight-story residential building. A second missile struck an administrative building elsewhere in the city that was not in use. No casualties were reported, according to preliminary data.

Missile alerts were also declared overnight in the Voronezh and Rostov regions and in Krasnodar Krai.

Voronezh Governor Alexander Gusev said air defenses had destroyed two “high-speed targets.” No casualties were reported. The Telegram channel Astra reported that Voronezh residents saw smoke near the local military airfield known as Baltimor after the attack.

In Taganrog, falling missile debris set cars on fire, said Rostov Governor Yuri Slyusar. Two women were injured in the attack, one of them seriously. The Telegram channel Astra reported that the grounds of Aviation Repair Plant No. 325 were on fire following the strike.

Residents of Tuapse also reported explosions overnight on May 27. District head Sergei Boyko had warned of a drone attack threat. The Krasnodar Krai emergency operations center announced that drone debris had fallen on the grounds of a sea terminal, with no casualties reported.

One of the explosions heard by residents likely occurred near an oil refinery, the Telegram channel Astra reported after reviewing video footage. The refinery in Tuapse had been attacked repeatedly over the past two months; the strikes triggered major fires and “oil rain” in the city.
