G7 leaders agreed at their summit in France to step up weapons deliveries to Ukraine and intensify pressure on Russia’s military economy, according to a joint statement issued by the countries.
“[W]e agree to increase the delivery of air defence capacities, additional systems and interceptors, and long-range capabilities,” the countries stated.
The G7 countries said they were prepared to consider granting Ukraine the relevant licenses to help expand the country’s military production capacity, and agreed to support efforts to strengthen Ukraine’s energy resilience.
“We commit to increase the pressure on the Russian war economy. In this context, we will strengthen our sanctions, including those on the oil and gas sectors,” the statement reads.
The G7 summit is taking place June 15–17 in France.
