Residents across a large area under Kaliabor subdivision and the Rupohihat Legislative Assembly constituency are facing severe inconvenience and disruption due to the deteriorated condition of a road constructed under the Prime Minister’s Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY).

The road, passing through Barghuli Bazaar, serves as a key and heavily used connectivity route linking several areas including Ambagan, Bilpar, Hatibandha and Bhurbandha. However, prolonged neglect and lack of maintenance have left the stretch in an extremely damaged condition.

According to local residents, large potholes resembling ponds have developed along the road, while extensive waterlogging and muddy conditions have rendered the route hazardous for commuters. In several sections, knee-deep water accumulation has further worsened accessibility and raised concerns over commuter safety.

The road has reportedly remained unrepaired for a considerable period despite being an important transport corridor in the region. Allegations have also emerged regarding the absence of timely repair and restoration work by the Public Works Department (Roads).

The poor condition of the road has affected daily life and movement across the area, with students, traders, office-goers and local residents facing significant difficulties. Commuters travelling in both small and heavy vehicles are encountering challenges while navigating the damaged stretch.

Residents have expressed concern over the prolonged neglect and have called for immediate intervention to restore the road and ensure safe and uninterrupted connectivity in the area.
