Nagaon Police have arrested a senior professor of Nagaon Medical College and Hospital over allegations of accepting bribes in exchange for manipulating post-mortem examination reports.

The detained individual has been identified as Dr. Manoj Kumar Sinha, Head of the Forensic Medicine Department at the medical college. He was reportedly intercepted by police in Jagiroad as part of an ongoing investigation into the alleged corruption case.

According to allegations, money was being demanded and collected from victims' families on the pretext of altering or influencing post-mortem reports. The case came to light after a bereaved family, who had lost their only son in an accident, lodged a complaint with the Nagaon District Commissioner, accusing officials of seeking a bribe.

Sources said the district administration subsequently conducted a covert operation, during which the alleged payment of the bribe was reportedly captured using a hidden camera. The footage is believed to have played a crucial role in the investigation.

Investigators are now examining the extent of the alleged malpractice, and police sources indicate that several other senior officials and staff members associated with the medical college may be questioned in connection with the case.

The incident has raised serious concerns about alleged irregularities in the handling of medico-legal procedures, particularly post-mortem documentation, which often serves as critical evidence in legal and criminal investigations.

Police have not yet released an official statement detailing the charges, and further investigation is underway.
