Atul Bora, chief of the Asom Gana Parishad and MLA-elect from Bokakhat, on May 6, reiterated the party’s commitment to the implementation of the Assam Accord, emphasising that key responsibilities now lie with the Centre.

Speaking after the declaration of election results, Bora said the state government has taken necessary steps toward implementing the Accord, but noted that the Ministry of Home Affairs is the nodal authority for crucial aspects such as border sealing, safeguarding indigenous populations, and executing recommendations related to Clause 6.

“We are committed to ensuring that all provisions are implemented in letter and spirit,” Bora said, referring to measures aimed at protecting the rights and identity of indigenous communities in Assam.

Highlighting governance outcomes, he said that action against illegal encroachment has contributed to improved law and order. “People are satisfied with the eviction of encroachers. There is peace now, and that has helped attract industries,” he said.

Bora also pointed to initiatives focused on women and youth development, adding that sustained policy support has strengthened socio-economic conditions in the state. He credited Narendra Modi for prioritising development in the Northeast, stating that multiple initiatives have accelerated growth in the region.

The AGP, an ally of the ruling NDA in Assam, retained its relevance in the state’s political landscape with its performance in the Assembly elections, continuing its role in the coalition government.
