Residents of Taphou Kuki Village held a peaceful protest seeking the immediate and safe release of 14 villagers who have reportedly remained in captivity in Senapati district for nearly two weeks.

Villagers, including women, elderly residents and children, gathered wearing white clothing and held placards calling for the safe and unconditional release of those held captive. Prayers were also offered during the gathering.

Family members of the missing villagers expressed concern over their well-being and appealed to authorities to intensify efforts to secure their release.

Hatpi Chongloi, a family member of one of the captives, said the prolonged uncertainty has caused distress among affected families.

“There are fourteen villagers from Taphou Kuki Village who are still being held captive in Senapati. Families are worried and anxious as they do not know about their condition,” Hatpi said.

She urged both the Kangpokpi and Senapati district administrations to take stronger measures to ensure the safe return of the villagers.

Family members also stated that some of those being held are primary earners in their households, adding to concerns among dependents and relatives.

Appealing to both the Centre and the Manipur government, the protesters called for intervention to facilitate the safe and unconditional release of the 14 villagers.

Villagers said they would continue peaceful appeals until those held captive are reunited with their families.
