

























Arunachal Pradesh and Assam on June 17 reaffirmed their commitment to closer inter-state cooperation in excise administration during a ministerial-level meeting held at the Civil Secretariat in Itanagar.
The meeting was chaired by Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, who holds the Finance, Tax, Excise and Narcotics portfolio, and was attended by Assam Excise Minister Atul Bora along with senior officials from the Finance and Excise Departments of both states.
Welcoming the Assam delegation, Mein highlighted the longstanding relationship between the two neighbouring states, built on mutual trust, cooperation and shared developmental goals. He stressed that stronger coordination between states is essential to address emerging governance challenges and ensure effective implementation of laws and policies.
The discussions focused on enhancing collaboration in excise administration, preventing illicit liquor trade, strengthening enforcement mechanisms, boosting revenue mobilisation and improving capacity-building initiatives. Both sides also explored ways to formulate mutually beneficial excise policies and augment State Own Revenue through coordinated efforts.
Mein observed that the challenges associated with excise management require joint action, technological innovation and sustained engagement between states. He expressed confidence that regular dialogue and collaborative initiatives would help strengthen governance systems and safeguard public interests.
Officials from both states made presentations on ongoing initiatives, operational challenges and potential areas for future cooperation. The meeting also discussed creating a roadmap for continued engagement through periodic review meetings and coordinated action on issues of common concern.
Both governments reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening institutional partnerships and adopting a collaborative approach to address shared challenges in the excise sector. The meeting concluded with a resolve to work together towards efficient, transparent and accountable excise administration.
