A 40-year-old man was allegedly attacked by three masked assailants in Sikkim’s Soreng district in what police are investigating as a potentially premeditated assault, with preliminary allegations suggesting that another individual may have orchestrated the incident.
The victim, identified as Chandrahang Subba, was reportedly attacked while returning home near Kholatar, close to Ringyang Bridge, between 10:00 am and 10:30 am a few days ago.
According to a complaint lodged by the victim’s nephew, the assailants assaulted Subba using stones and a wheel spanner, causing serious injuries including a fractured right leg, a broken tooth, and multiple injuries across his body.
As per the complaint and preliminary findings, the victim reportedly stated during the incident that the attackers disclosed they had been hired and sent by a local resident from the area. Authorities are examining these claims as part of the ongoing investigation.
Police officials conducted an initial investigation at the site of the attack, located approximately nine kilometres east of the police station jurisdiction, and completed necessary legal procedures at the scene.
Investigators have further gathered that the three accused fled after the assault in a grey-coloured TATA Punch vehicle.
To identify and apprehend those involved, police have activated plain-clothes personnel and local intelligence networks. CCTV footage from nearby areas is being reviewed to trace the movement of the suspected vehicle.
Authorities have also submitted a requisition to the District Superintendent of Police seeking tower location data and Call Detail Records (CDR) linked to the alleged mastermind as part of the investigation.
Subba is currently undergoing treatment at District Hospital in Namchi. Police said the case remains under active investigation.
Meanwhile, residents from across the local community assembled at Sombaria Police Station in a show of solidarity with the victim. The gathering called for the immediate arrest of those responsible and demanded justice for Subba and his family.
