Senior BJP leader and Assam Minister Pijush Hazarika emerged as the highest margin winner among all BJP candidates in the 2026 Assam Assembly Elections after storming to victory from Jagiroad constituency with a massive lead of 93,584 votes.
Hazarika defeated Congress candidate Bubul Das in a one-sided contest, polling 1,55,129 votes against his rival’s 61,545 votes, according to Election Commission data.
The emphatic mandate also marked Hazarika’s fourth consecutive victory from his home constituency Jagiroad, further cementing his position as one of the BJP’s strongest political faces in Assam.
Known as a close confidant of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Hazarika has remained one of the most visible ministers in the BJP-led government and is credited with pushing several key infrastructure and connectivity projects in the region.
Among the major projects associated with his tenure is the long-awaited Jagi Bhakatgaon Bridge over the Kapili River, connecting Morigaon and Jagiroad. The bridge, inaugurated earlier this year, ended nearly two decades of delay and significantly improved regional connectivity and transportation.
Residents in Jagiroad also witnessed rapid infrastructural growth in recent years, including development linked to the Jagiroad railway flyover and the upcoming Tata Semiconductor Project, which is expected to transform the region into a major industrial hub.
Hazarika, who began his electoral career in 2011 from Raha constituency before shifting to Jagiroad, has held several key portfolios including Water Resources, Parliamentary Affairs, and Information & Public Relations.
His commanding victory comes as the BJP-led NDA returned to power in Assam for a third consecutive term under the leadership of Himanta Biswa Sarma.
