Adi Baane Ane Kebang (ABAK) on May 16 launched ‘Banne Nog-ying’, a distinctive traditional bead garland for Adi women, in an effort to preserve the cultural heritage and identity of the Adi community’s womenfolk.

The launch ceremony was held at the conference hall of IGJ Government Higher Secondary School in Pasighat in the presence of Tapi Darang, MLA of Pasighat East, along with several dignitaries and community leaders.

The newly introduced ornament has been designed on the lines of the traditional ‘Dudab’ worn by Adi men and is intended to serve as a unique cultural identifier for Adi women, especially unmarried women of the community.

Speaking at the event, Tapi Darang lauded the initiative and said the launch of ‘Banne Nog-ying’ would help preserve and promote the rich cultural identity of Adi women for future generations.

Dr. Tajom Tasung, President of the Central Donyi-Polo Yelam Kebang (CDPYK), described the initiative as a landmark step towards safeguarding the traditions and cultural values of the Adi tribe.

Zilla Parishad Chairperson Ruth Tabing Boko said Adi women have traditionally adorned various ornaments such as Nog, Sondorong, Maduli and Tampilang, and noted that ‘Banne Nog-ying’ would become a distinctive adornment for unmarried Adi women, similar to the concept of ‘Banbo Reyang’ for unmarried men.

ABAK leaders, including President Yamek Mize Taggu and General Secretary Opung Jamoh Dai, highlighted that the initiative was undertaken with the approval of the Adi Baane Kebang and Opin Buang Council during a meeting held on May 2, 2026.

According to the organisers, ‘Banne Nog-ying’ is a recreation of ‘Nog’, the traditional female ornament of the Adi tribe, redesigned to preserve its cultural essence while making it suitable for modern usage.

The ornament was conceptualised by Opung Jamoh Dai, crafted by Yato Jamoh Nobeng and named by Maktel Pertin, Head Gaon Burah of Dambuk in Lower Dibang Valley district.

Organisers stated that the initiative aims to honour women, friends and distinguished female guests with dignity, cultural pride and respect, while also strengthening traditional awareness and unity within the Adi community across Arunachal Pradesh.
