Six persons, including three women, were detained during a police raid on an alleged prostitution racket operating from a residence in the 14th Lane area of Second Link Road in Silchar on Sunday night, June 21. The operation was carried out following repeated complaints from local residents regarding alleged illegal activities at the premises.
 

According to local sources, residents had been raising concerns for a considerable period over alleged anti-social activities taking place at the house. Acting on the complaints, police launched a raid on Sunday night and detained three women and three men suspected to be linked to the alleged racket.
 

Locals alleged that during the operation, some individuals associated with the racket attempted to attack police personnel and residents with sharp weapons. However, police reportedly brought the situation under control and continued the raid without any major incident.
 

The operation triggered strong reactions from local residents, who gathered in large numbers and staged protests, expressing frustration over what they described as a delayed response by the authorities despite longstanding complaints. Residents claimed that the alleged activities had adversely affected the social environment of the locality and created a sense of insecurity among people living in the area.
 

According to locals, the house where the raid was conducted belongs to Niyati Das, who they alleged had been operating the racket for a long time. However, residents claimed that Das managed to flee before police could apprehend her.
 

The protesters demanded the immediate arrest of the alleged kingpin and strict legal action against all those involved in the operation of the racket.
 

Police sources said the detained individuals are being questioned and further investigation is underway to identify other persons connected to the case. Efforts are also continuing to trace and arrest the main accused.
