The Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM), the apex body representing the Kuki-Zo community, has expressed strong concern over what it described as continued injustice against the Kuki-Zo people and alleged inaction by the authorities on its key demands related to recent incidents of violence in Manipur.

KIM Information Secretary Janghaolun Haokip said the organisation was disappointed over the lack of progress in addressing the political and humanitarian concerns raised by the community. He also criticised the absence of arrests in connection with the killing of Kuki-Zo church leaders and called for immediate action against those responsible.

The organisation further raised concern over 14 Kuki-Zo individuals who were reportedly being held captive in Senapati district and demanded their immediate and safe release.

KIM also objected to the ongoing combing operations in Kuki-Zo inhabited areas, stating that such actions were creating fear and anxiety among civilians. The organisation alleged that while security operations were continuing in Kuki-Zo regions, those involved in recent killings and abductions had not yet been brought to justice.

“It is the duty of the State and security forces to identify those responsible for the killings, ensure justice, and secure the release of all hostages,” Haokip stated.

He warned that if the concerns of the Kuki-Zo community were not addressed, there would be opposition to what the organisation termed as “unjustified” security operations in Kuki-Zo areas.

The statement comes amid heightened tension in the hill districts following recent incidents of violence and abductions. Reports also indicate that Kuki-Zo women in parts of Kangpokpi district have begun vigil activities in protest against ongoing security operations, which they describe as discriminatory.
