Thousands of people participated in a rally organised by Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) in Kangpokpi on May 30, seeking justice in the killing of three Kuki-Zo church leaders, the release of 14 individuals reportedly being held hostage, and an early resolution to the ongoing crisis in Manipur.

According to organisers, the rally began at Brig. M. Thomas Ground and proceeded through National Highway-2 before concluding at the office of the Deputy Commissioner in Kangpokpi. Participants included community leaders, church representatives, women, youth and members of various civil society organisations.

During the gathering, speakers expressed concern over the killing of the three church leaders and called for a thorough investigation and appropriate action against those responsible. They also appealed for efforts to secure the release of 14 Kuki-Zo individuals reportedly being held in Senapati district.

Church leaders who attended the rally emphasised the need for peace, justice and harmony among communities. Representatives of the community urged authorities to ensure accountability in accordance with the law and prevent recurrence of such incidents.

A delegation of KIM leaders and civil society representatives later met Kangpokpi Deputy Commissioner Mahesh Chaudhari and submitted a memorandum addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In the memorandum, KIM sought action in connection with the killing of the church leaders, measures to secure the release of the 14 individuals, enhanced security in Kuki-Zo inhabited areas and steps to restore public confidence in the justice system.

The organisation also called for continued political dialogue and an early resolution to issues concerning the Kuki-Zo community.

The rally concluded peacefully, with participants reiterating their commitment to pursuing their demands through democratic and constitutional means.
