Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on April 25 expressed strong confidence in the electoral prospects of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in West Bengal, asserting that the party could surpass expectations in the ongoing Assembly elections.

Speaking in Kolkata, Sarma stated that the political environment in the state has undergone a significant shift in favour of the BJP. Drawing on his past experience of participating in election campaigns in West Bengal in 2016 and 2019, he said the level of public support being witnessed this time is unprecedented.

He noted that voters who were earlier uncertain about their choice have begun openly backing the BJP following the first phase of polling. According to Sarma, this change in public sentiment indicates growing confidence among the electorate that the BJP is poised for victory in the state.

Referring to the party’s performance in the initial phase, Sarma claimed that the BJP has already secured a substantial number of seats. He further projected that the party could cross the 200-seat mark in the West Bengal Assembly, adding that such an outcome would not be surprising given the current momentum.

Sarma also drew parallels with the electoral outlook in Assam, stating that the BJP is expected to achieve a strong mandate there as well. He projected that the party would secure around 100 seats in Assam while reaching a “double century” in West Bengal.
