Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited Zubeen Kshetra at Hatimura in Sonapur near Guwahati shortly after taking oath for a second term in office, marking his first visit to the cultural site dedicated to music icon Zubeen Garg.

During the visit, the Chief Minister paid tribute to the artist and acknowledged his contribution to Assam’s cultural and musical heritage. The visit was seen as both symbolic and personal, coming immediately after the swearing-in ceremony.

Sarma also reviewed the ongoing construction work of ‘Zubeen Kshetra’, a permanent memorial and cultural space being developed in honour of Zubeen Garg. The project aims to preserve and celebrate the singer’s contribution to Assamese music, culture and society.

Officials briefed the Chief Minister on the current status of the project and its future development plans during the inspection visit. Discussions were also held regarding the infrastructure and facilities proposed at the memorial site.

The Chief Minister said the initiative is intended to create a dedicated cultural space that reflects the artistic legacy of Zubeen Garg and serves as a centre for promoting Assamese cultural identity.

Located in Sonapur on the outskirts of Guwahati, the memorial project is being developed as a tribute to one of Assam’s most influential contemporary cultural figures.
