Don't value Product Hunt
Product Hunt is an American website that specializes in sharing new products.

Its homepage features a real-time ranking that shows the most popular new products of the day, with rankings based on visitor votes.

Many developers highly value this website, often publishing their work on it and displaying its logo on their product pages to show how many votes they've received.

As shown in the image above, this product received 651 votes. Thus, you can promote this by saying, "Our product ranked first on Product Hunt that day (or that week)."

I've always been skeptical of Product Hunt, thinking its rankings are completely irrelevant.
This week, on the "Hacker News" forum, a reader exactly wrote an article , which was the same as my opinion, titled "Don't Value Product Hunt Very Much," and it was said very well.
Why is Product Hunt ranking unimportant?
The reason is simple, its visitors are not your real customers .
Most of its visitors are product managers, designers, or founders. Actually, they are not real founders, but people who want to be founders, because the former are too busy to frequently check out what new products have appeared on Product Hunt.
Your real customers will not visit Product Hunt; they don't care about new product rankings. Programmers and developers will also not come, but instead go to specialized programmer forums or programming websites.
Product managers and designers are the ones who care most about new products.Because they want to find ideas and inspiration for their projects, grasp current trends, and catch signs of emerging opportunities. This mindset determines that what interests them is the creativity of the product, not the product itself.
People who vote for your product don't necessarily mean they have confidence in it, nor do they mean they will become your customers, but it meansThey are very likely to copy your ideas.
The vote for Product Hunt does not equate to a customer's vote. Even if your product receives 1000 votes, if the voters do not use it, it will not convert into your customers, making it completely useless.
The right way to launch a new product is not to hit the Product Hunt charts, but toFind your true customers, face them and directly convey product information to them.
For example, if you've developed a human resources SaaS product, HR managers are your target users. They won't come to Product Hunt, so you shouldn't post your product there. Instead, you should find the contact information of every HR manager on LinkedIn, email them, and explain how you can solve their problems.

You can also place ads on social platforms targeting specific users, which will be more effective than Product Hunt's ranking because real customers have a greater chance of seeing them.
Anyway,Where your target customers are, promote your products there.
The significance of Product Hunt is that it may attract the attention of venture capitalists. Additionally, it provides a platform for you to showcase marketing materials.
But even if you successfully get investment, it doesn't matter.
What determines a company's fate is not your investors, but your customers. Without customers, a company ultimately cannot survive. Your most important task is to find customers, the more the better, and Product Hunt doesn't help much with that.
Last weekend, the Rare Earth Developer Conference
Last weekend, the "Rare Earth Developers Conference 2024" was successfully held in Beijing, right? Many of our readers attended, didn't they.
The scene was very lively, with over 1,500 people in attendance. The hotel venue was packed, as you can see in the photos.

The most popular ones are undoubtedly the AI zone on the outdoor court, the "Ocean Navigation" themed IP experience zone, and the hands-on laboratory Code Lab, where you can interact with products and play hands-on activities on-site.
Here is some good news. All the speeches by the 5 main forum guests, 12 producers, and over 70 technical experts have been uploaded online..

1、 Eco-Olympics
The Paris Olympics will open on July 26. The organizing committee announced that it is an eco-friendly Olympics.
However, its environmental measures give a sense of simplicity, as if the main purpose was to save money, after all, Paris's finances are not particularly abundant.

First, this Olympic village was not newly built but rather renovated from existing buildings (see above).
The balconies were also added as simple extensions during the renovation (see below).

Inside, it's even simpler, with cardboard beds (see below).

Even the chairs (see below) are made of cardboard.

The most uncomfortable aspect for many, perhaps, is that none of the rooms are equipped with air conditioning; instead, they use geothermal temperature regulation (i.e., heat exchange with underground rock layers).
If you still find it hot (which is highly likely), you can borrow an air circulation fan placed on the floor from the organizing committee.
In southeastern Australia, there were once millions of square kilometers of forest, now less than 5% remain.
Many large trees have disappeared or been turned into utility poles, which is a disaster for the birds that live there.

An Australian research team hopes to rebuild bird habitats. They use artificial intelligence to analyze which types of canopies are most attractive to birds.

Based on their analysis, they created designs and installed artificial canopies on utility poles.

I'm a bit curious, will birds actually like living in these canopies?
A Japanese company has launched a "Satiating Soda," which, when consumed, eliminates hunger.

This beverage reacts with stomach acid to form a jelly-like substance, creating a feeling of fullness and relieving hunger.
According to people who have tried it, it is indeed effective, can last for two hours, and then you will feel hungry again.

A can has a capacity of 190 milliliters and sells for $1.5 (approximately 11 yuan RMB), not cheap. However, it reminds us that during weight loss, you can eat jelly, which can produce a sense of fullness while being low in calories.
Ships move forward by propellers, so if humans equipped with propellers, couldn't they swim long distances?
A French company has actually invented such a device, allowing you to pedal a propeller underwater, somewhat like an underwater bicycle.

It is fixed between the legs and has two pedals. When you pedal hard, it drives the rear propeller, propelling you forward.

The company states that the device, combined with a snorkel, can allow you to move easily in the water over long distances.

Also, it can move backward, but if you want to reverse, you need to place it in front of your head, turn the pedals with both hands, and the posture will be a bit strange.

In 2022, archaeologists discovered a Buddha statue in the Egyptian port city of Berenice.

Archaeologists believe this was carved locally in Egypt in the second century AD.

This is a major discovery. Previously, people knew that Buddhism had spread as far west as Afghanistan, but this Buddha statue proves that it actually reached the ancient Roman Empire.
Drake Passage (Drake Passage) is located between South America and Antarctica, where the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans meet.

The dry, cold air of the Antarctic continent and the wet, warm air flow of the American continent create a pressure difference, making this area the most dangerous sea in the world. It is windy all year with gusts of over eight on the Beaufort scale, and countless sailors have perished here.
On one side of the strait stands Cape Horn, the southernmost point of South America. Here, a monument stands, inscribed with the commemoration of at least 10,000 sailors who died at sea.

Abstract
1,If the Earth were slightly larger, we would not be able to explore space.
The Earth is a very rare planet, and its size is just right.
If the Earth were slightly larger, for example, if its diameter doubled, then we might not be able to leave the Earth to explore space.

Because if the diameter doubles, the planet's mass might increase by about ten times, and the gravity might become more than twice as strong, depending on the planet's composition.
At this point, the additional gravity would, on the one hand, be beneficial to the formation of life, as it would produce a thicker atmosphere to protect surface life from the harm of harmful cosmic rays.
On the other hand, it would also make it difficult to launch rockets into space. With ten times the gravity, to launch the same load, rocket fuel would need to increase by about three times.

If you were to launch a load of 45 tons (equivalent to the Apollo moon landing mission), the rocket's weight would reach about 400,000 tons, the size of the Great Pyramid.
Imagine launching a behemoth like the pyramid into space; this is theoretically possible, but practically very difficult.
Therefore, when we search for extraterrestrial life, if we discover a planet with very strong gravity, even if there are intelligent beings on it, they would find it very difficult to leave that planet.

1,
We oppose food waste, not only because it wastes food, but also because it wastes a lot of labor and energy.
Food production requires field machinery and irrigation pumps, needs fertilizers and pesticides, and also requires steel, aluminum, and plastic for manufacturing these agricultural tools. During the process of food production, issues such as soil erosion, nitrate leaching, loss of biodiversity, and the emergence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria also occur. If you waste food, all of this is wasted.

We have spent half of the engineering effort on Earth to add AI chatbots to every application, while half of the industries in the world have not figured out how to regularly back up databases.
The number of companies launching AI products far exceeds the number of actual use cases. Most of them are just scammers and speculators.

Japan's public transportation is highly developed, reaching almost every corner. One reason for this is that Japan has many small retail businesses (夫妻店), and they need a developed public transportation system to bring in traffic. The government has no choice but to maintain the bus system.

4,
I know many developers don't like frontend, mainly for two reasons. One is that frontend is too influenced by trends, and the other is that frontend developers are mainly composed of young/newcomers/self-taught individuals who "constantly discover" new paradigms.
This makes frontend technology extremely unstable; you can't learn anything truly lasting, everything repeats every six months to two years, just like watching a mayfly that lives for only one day argue about long-term political issues.
5,
Privacy might be a relatively recent concept. When I was a child, I lived in a small town of 3,000 people where everyone knew what everyone else was doing. There were no private phones back then, and the postmaster could see all the mail people received.
Industrialization led to the emergence of megacities, and the concentration of large populations gave rise to the sense of privacy, but technological advancements might make privacy lose again.
