Original architecture of ancient Roman fountain revealed in Perre Ancien | The Jerusalem Post

Excavations at Perre Ancient City in Adiyaman, Turkey have recently unveiled findings, including the original architecture of a historical Roman fountain.

"As of May 2025, within the scope of the Future Heritage Project, we started excavation at the Roman Fountain located in the center of Perre Ancient City. Restoration and conservation works have started at the fountain. As a result of these restoration and conservation works, we knew that there was a channel here, but as a result of our excavation, we determined that there are three channels here. By digging down about one meter, we have restored the fountain to its appearance from 2,000 years ago. This year, excavations in Perre Ancient City will continue in the Sacred Way, which we call the Infinity Staircase, the mosaic area, and the fountain area. It will continue indefinitely until about November," said Mehmet Alkan, the Director of Adiyaman Museum.

The Roman fountain is located in the Örenli Neighborhood north of the necropolis area of Perre Ancient City.

The fountain, where water has been flowing for 2,000 years, was a resting area for caravans in ancient times.

The Perre Ancient City, an important heritage site from the Roman period, has been the subject of archaeological work since excavations started in May this year.
