People with the will to repair do astounding work. I squeaked 2 more years out of a 6 year-old iPhone after I botched a battery replacement. Turns out I bent a motherboard pin the size of a hair follicle. My local repair shop brought me into the back room and showed me through a large microscope what the issue was, and they fixed it within a day.

Using a DVD player as our CD player right now, which is OK. I have an old RCA switcher, and I need to see if I can run it through that and switch back and forth from connecting to TV and stereo. I tried hooking the TV to the stereo, but that didn't work for some reason.

Sometimes if it's not outputting any sound or powering on it can be as simple as a $1 fuse - I "fixed" a high-end B&K amp once by doing that. Or contact cleaning. Hang onto it!

honestly even a new reciever "topend" costing 4 digits now , I DOUBLE it has a decent class AB amp circuit(s) , and decent fm am( if it even has AM probably not!) , yes it's a good feeling knowing that IT CAN BE DONE! and you do not need to be a super tech or engineer to do it ! just read read and take caution when workign with anythhing that plugs into the wall , 90% of the time ? the problem is "easy" to fix really !

Cradle to Cradle, baby. It’s true. Recycling plastic is really down cycling. Plastic becomes some amorphous sound barrier on the side of the road, etc and eventually ends up in landfill. A solution is to design products with future lifecycles in mind

My dad was a machinist and mechanic who lived in the Bronx for many decades. He frequently found sewing machines, vacuum cleaners, busted bicycles, and other machines and appliances that people had discarded. He would always take them home, repair them (and even made the missing parts if he was able) and distributed them to neighbors, many of whom were recent immigrants. Some of them were able to set up little businesses of their own out of their apartments, and others were just happy to have a bike, vacuum cleaner, lamp, etc. that was lovingly restored by my dad. He was such a great guy. I still have a vacuum cleaner from the 1940s that he restored and it works perfectly well.
