Handy Haversack: I just finished Annlee Newitz'ers The Terraformers, which, yes, is a fantasy but in space. Super posthuman in trappings but also deeply about the danger of nostalgia and the creation of and use of race as a strategy to divide workers from unifying around what they actually have in common: oppression from owners.

Also, it has sentient trains, which are pretty cool. Worth a read.
