I feel this is really the crux of it in a larger sense. I personally feel there is “magic” created when actual humans pull notes and chords out of thin air and create something. It might mean something to me, but if the world as a whole doesn’t care if breathing humans are actually participating, and AI-music and art is satisfying to them, then it doesn’t make a difference what is “right”… unfortunately.

I'm trying to get some of this stuff to run on my laptop, so I can train it on sources I want to hear.Angel Electronic: 'if bruce springsteen wants to put out 20 more albums after he dies...' this is a wild sentence for many reasons, none of them positive

All those posthumous Tupac albums that came out in the 90s and early 00s, all AI-generated. But THEY don't want you to know that.ultradamno: Only The Residents should get to keep making AI albums
Angel Electronic: honestly, any show that regularly uses ai is not a show i am interested in
DjLorraine: I asked at the PT's if there was an alternative to having to scan to check-in. They were chatting that it's strange that clients check in from their home instead of at the counter.

There have been AI generated audio streams for some time, but not trying to pass themselves off as radio stations.tonyb: Artificial Intelligence doesn’t understand me at all. : (
dakfinch: Great interview and discussion! Two of my fav djs. i agree, lots of lame AI is already here, and more to come from top pop stars. meanwhile cool people like Michael will make funny jingles with it. when the electricity goes off we tune up the acoustic guitars.
Sam: Like rock n roll. It’s not about the music.
DanFA: Plot Twist: Mark will find out that he's been AI generated all this time. It's a real Blade Runner twist.

agreed....in fact, i really wish the good shows (which is most of them) on wfmu's "rock n soul stream" should move to one of the 2 respectable streams and delete the r&s stream., and it's robots.
Webhamster Henry: Here's one of my Udio genned "scat songs" jhhl.net...
Sam: The goddamn digidogs
PaulRobeson1924: Robo dog- dig the boys a latrine
Handy Haversack: Yeah, exactly. A bribe. Like Gmail was a bribe. Like Amazon Prime was originally a bribe. Like "the first one's free" is a bribe.
But this one comes with deep ramifications, especially in terms of how it supports extractive capitalism.
Good show, Mark and Michael! Thanks for doing it!
Noir Lover: Here's another bribe...these video ads on subway trains that loop these cooking videos. It's training riders to look at screens with yummy food.
melinda: I need to read Mumford, this is a very useful concept.

I feel this is really the crux of it in a larger sense. I personally feel there is “magic” created when actual humans pull notes and chords out of thin air and create something. It might mean something to me, but if the world as a whole doesn’t care if breathing humans are actually participating, and AI-music and art is satisfying to them, then it doesn’t make a difference what is “right”… unfortunately.ultradamno:
↳ Webhamster Henry @6:51
Was that for someone else? I just mean, The Residents are the only act where it can be done by any people or any thing is kind of baked into the cake (plus, there porn-rivaling embracing of all new tech).Fredericks: I just read this today.

Close your eyes and it will go away?Webhamster Henry: I'm actually hoping some of this gets crossed with "iRealBook", a program that gens music from lead sheets, to make even more accurate and interesting backing/practice track!

If we all did togetherNotARealDoctor in Norfolk VA: Husband tells me that at Amazon "AI" stands for Actually Indians
Angel Electronic: there is an enormous difference between a human taking inspiration from an existing artist, and a machine unknowingly dragging the most algorithmically 'correct' parts together

joe_rosevear: Well, what if we use AI to find ways to *reduce* our energy use?
Barbie: Wow
bleubombersune: The big tech doesn't want to pay for the cost of operation. they pass all the cost to consumer. All stay safe and be well. Thank you Mark and Michael

listener 126464: Thank you, Mark, thanks Michael.
Noir Lover: I'm going to get a drink of water right now before Sam Altman takes it from me!
Franco Twinkie: I'M TWISTING! I'M TWISTING!!!
Mark Hurst: Thanks, everyone!
Fredericks: I think I heard a guitar/saxophone.
Webhamster Henry: AI is going to figure out how to do AI more efficiently, design (and order) chips to do that, but like all productivity increases, will be overworked enough to meet or surpass all the resource consumption it had before.
