The company has officially rolled out version 4.8.15 of its app, bringing a wave of bug fixes, crucial security patches, and user-friendly features to every major operating system.

The highlight of this release is a vital security patch that fixes a major vulnerability, alongside new tools designed to make the app significantly smoother to use on iOS, Android, and Linux.

The updates are rolling out to app stores now, though the provider notes that store moderation may cause slight delays for some users.

Critical security fixes and bug patches

The most critical element of the 4.8.15 update is the resolution of a severe flaw in the tun2socks module, a network utility used to route traffic through proxy servers.

According to Amnezia VPN, this flaw was not unique to its platform. "We've also patched a vulnerability in the tun2socks implementation that affected several major VPN providers, ourselves included; the fix is included in this release," the company noted on its blog.

If left unpatched, this vulnerability posed a serious risk to users relying on VPNs to bypass strict digital censorship. The provider explained that "spyware on a user's device could connect to the VPN client's proxy without permission and read the IP address of the latter, making it easier to shut down circumvention services."

Alongside this major security win, Amnezia VPN deployed several OS-specific bug fixes.

Linux users will no longer suffer dropped protected connections after their device wakes from sleep.

Meanwhile, Android users will see an end to app crashes that occurred when importing backups on certain OS versions.

For Apple users, the update resolves operational issues with Self-hosted and OpenVPN connections, as well as fixes connection recovery over the XRay protocol.

Quality-of-life improvements for iOS and Premium users

Beyond security patches, the update introduces excellent quality-of-life upgrades. The standout feature is the introduction of split tunneling for the VLESS protocol on iOS. VLESS is a stealth proxy protocol often used to bypass deep packet inspection.

Split tunneling allows you to choose exactly which apps use the encrypted VPN tunnel and which connect directly to the internet. This means you can keep your general browsing secure while letting your banking or government apps, which frequently block VPN connections, operate on your regular internet connection.

Amnezia VPN also streamlined its subscription management. Previously, users had to go through customer support to handle renewals. Now, you can renew your Amnezia Premium subscription directly inside the app or via your Personal Dashboard on the website. The app will even remind you when your expiration date is approaching, letting you top up in just two taps without reconfiguring your devices.

Furthermore, newcomers will now find a simplified breakdown comparing the Free and Premium plans within the "VPN by Amnezia" section, making it easier to choose the right tier.
