Amazon announced on Wednesday that it plans to add about 2,000 new areas to its list of same-day prescription delivery locations. This would expand the delivery service to over 4,500 locations by the end of the year. 

Amazon Pharmacy has been around since 2020 and currently delivers to all 50 states and Washington, DC. Its medication delivery service serves as an alternative for those who need timely medication and live in underserved areas or lack proximity to a brick-and-mortar pharmacy. 

The expansion will now include areas in Idaho and Massachusetts affected by pharmacy closures and other limited access to care.

"By combining our pharmacy expertise with our logistics network, we're removing critical barriers and helping patients start treatment faster -- setting a new standard for accessible, digital-forward pharmacy care," John Love, vice president of Amazon Pharmacy, said in a statement.

There are various programs available through Amazon Pharmacy, including RxPass, which costs $5 a month for Amazon Prime subscribers. RxPass also allows access to those without insurance and lets them save up to 80% on generic medications and 40% on brand-name medications. 

Most recently, in 2025, Amazon Pharmacy introduced a caregiver support feature, which allows families to manage medical subscriptions for other family members. Treating health care like a family affair is gaining some traction. Fitbit co-founders recently introduced Luffu, an AI health-tracking app that lets caregivers keep their family's health data in one place. 

Amazon Pharmacy also has kiosks that let subscribers pick up prescriptions at certain clinic lobbies, and plans to expand these kiosks this year. 

A representative for Amazon did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
