Hostinger is a major web hosting service that enables businesses and individuals to create an online presence. The company provides complete hosting solutions, including WordPress and VPS services.

Hostinger was established in 2004 to provide affordable hosting solutions backed by a 99.9% uptime guarantee and multiple management tools for website administration. The company’s hPanel control panel offers an easy-to-use interface for managing hosting accounts, websites, and associated services.

The Auto-Installer tool is a primary usability feature of Hostinger. The tool enables users to establish popular web apps easily. Users can deploy multiple Content Management Systems (CMS) through a simple click-based interface, including WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, and PrestaShop, along with e-commerce platforms, CRM software, and billing apps.

The Auto Installer tool eliminates the need for manual database creation and file uploads through automated technical procedures. This benefits both new users and those who want fast setup processes. Users can choose their desired app from a list before providing it.

Installing LimeSurvey on your Hostinger website

The quickest way to get LimeSurvey up and running is by using Hostinger’s Auto Installer tool. You can install it manually if your hosting platform doesn’t offer something like this. These steps are available on the LimeSurvey website.

To get started using the Auto Installer:

  • Log in to your Hostinger account on the official Hostinger website.
  • From the left-hand menu, click on Websites.
  • Next to your account name, click Dashboard.
  • In the left-hand menu, go to Websites again and select Auto Installer.
  • Under the "Other" section, click Select.
  • From the dropdown menu, choose LimeSurvey.
  • Click Select.

A pop-up window will appear to configure your LimeSurvey installation. To keep it separate from your main site, it’s recommended that you install LimeSurvey in a subdirectory of your website (e.g., `yourdomain.com/surveys`).

During these next steps, you must assign a Website Title, Administrator Email, Administrator Username, and Administrator Password at the top of the pop-up window.

Next, click Advanced, then:

In the Enter Subdirectory box, type the name you want for your subdirectory (e.g., `ls`, `surveys`, `limesurveys`).

Important: Make sure "Create new database" is selected, and then assign a strong password for this new database.

Final steps

To complete the setup process, you will need to go back to the Auto Installer page in Hostinger. Next to the LimeSurvey, tap the icon on the right. From there, choose Manage.

On the next page, you can log into LimeSurvey using the credentials you created above.

LimeSurvey administration page

Upon initial login using the default credentials (usually `admin` and `password`), the system immediately prompts you to change the default administrator password for security reasons.

Following this, you'll delve into the Global Settings, a central hub for customizing the behavior of your entire LimeSurvey installation. Here, you'll configure essential aspects such as email settings for sending invitations and notifications, security settings like enabling HTTPS, and various interface settings to tailor the administrative look and feel.

Beyond global configurations, user management is another key area to address. This involves creating and managing additional administrator accounts, assigning specific permissions based on user roles, and organizing them into user groups for streamlined control.

Once these foundational elements are in place, you can create your first survey. This process begins with defining basic survey details such as the title, primary language, welcome and end messages, and general presentation options. With the established survey shell, you’ll then focus on designing the survey content by structuring questions into logical groups, adding diverse question types, and applying conditions using relevance equations to control question visibility. Finally, before launching, it's imperative to thoroughly preview your survey to ensure everything functions as intended before activating it to make it accessible to your target audience.
