I test office furniture for a living, and this £17 L-shap...

The HomeMake FurnitureR KANTE L-shaped desk on a green background next to a TechRadar badge that reads 'Don't Miss'

This is an absolutely wild home office desk deal. As office furniture editor, I see plenty of deals, but I have never seen one as cheap as this. The HomeMake FurnitureR Kante black and wooden L-shaped desk with 2 shelves is £17 (was £165) at the House of Fraser.

Seventeen quid?! I've had takeaway pizzas that cost more than this. I even refreshed the page to make sure it wasn't a mistake, and went and found it for £17 at Studio, which is owned by the same company. So, the deal price is correct - at least for now.

You'll need to add postage on to that price, and that adds between £4.99 and £11.99 depending on the service you use. Even then, it's still an absurdly cheap deal for an L-shaped desk. These things usually cost around £70. The cheapest one I can see with shelves on Amazon is £39, and the worksurfaces on that one are smaller.

Update: Still in disbelief, I went and checked the price again a few hours after publishing this article. It's £17, so it's almost definitely not a typo or a glitch.

Today's best L-shaped office desk deal

This desk was previously priced as a mid-range option - although I can't see when it was last £165, and with that in mind, I'd treat this as a budget desk with all that you'd expect from cheaper furniture. Materials won't be ultra-premium, but so long as it's stable and looks good in your workspace, for £17, I really can't argue.

So, what does a £17 desk get you? First, this is built for home offices. While it's billed as durable, I wouldn't bring it into a busy office environment. But for running a small business or working from home, it's going to tick a lot of boxes.

What I especially love, though, is that unlike a lot of cheap models I see online, this one doesn't look like it came out of an industrial site or someone's workshop. It's got those eye-catching inward-curving legs, and a smoothly rounded corner section holding two storage shelves.

It's made from E1 engineered wood, a type of wood similar to MDF, that the company says is "smooth, scratch resistant, odourless and wear-resistant." The legs are part of a steel frame, painted black, and "resistant to rust and deformation."

At 80kg, weight load isn't staggeringly high, so you won't want to overload this one. But it's more than enough to hold multiple monitors and laptops, with plenty of space provided for exactly that.

For more picks, I've rounded up the best standing desks if you prefer height adjustable office furniture - but none of them are this cheap, usually retailing for around £100 on Amazon.

What are the dimensions of this L-shaped office desk?

The Kante measures 147 x 112 x 75cm, so you'll need some space to fit it into your home office setup. It has a weight limit of 80kg. Each shelf has a 20kg weight limit.

You can see the full dimensions in the image below, as well as on the site.

Who is this home office desk for?

I'd class this desk as one for busy professionals working from home who need more space for extra monitors or paperwork.

It's more stylish than a lot of cheap office desks I see, thanks to the sweeping legs and rounded corner.

Also, anyone who loves a bargain. I can't ignore that 90% discount. And direct from Gemini

Is assembly easy?

This is always one of the first things I look for when buying or testing a new desk.

It's a self-assembly desk, as you'd expect. According to the page, it comes with "easy-to-follow full instructions included.

How much is delivery?

House of Fraser offers a range of delivery options, including store collection (but bring the van if you choose this).

Prices start from £4.99 for standard shipping, up to £11.99 for next-day delivery via DPD.
