Hello NetBird Community!

February was all about improving the product with fixes that have been a long time coming and a lot of quality of life improvements.

Product Updates

Extra DNS Labels for Load Balancing ( #3252 )

We've introduced support for custom DNS labels, enabling peers to be addressed using user-defined names. When multiple peers share the same extra labels, the client automatically generates grouped DNS labels, allowing for DNS-based round-robin load balancing.

Expanded Routing Peer Support ( #3134 )

Starting from version 0.27.0, we introduced userspace routing, which now allows administrators to configure routing peers on Windows and macOS—not just Linux. This expands deployment flexibility and makes it easier to integrate routing peers across different environments.

Accessibility-Optimized Client UI Icons( #3335 )

Our desktop client now features new system tray icons designed for better accessibility and a clearer status overview. This improvement was a community contribution, and we want to give a big shoutout to everyone involved!

Improved Stability for Relayed Connections

We’ve fixed critical bugs that were affecting customers with long-standing relayed connections. This update enhances connection stability, reducing disruptions. We highly recommend upgrading to benefit from these improvements.

Peer Inactivity Settings

Administrators can now configure peer session inactivity policies. If a peer remains disconnected from our management service for 10 minutes, users will be required to re-authenticate before regaining access. This improves security by enforcing session control.

Golang Meetup

The NetBird team sponsored their first (of hopefully many more) Golang Meetup in Berlin where Misha took the stage to go over how to use Go with eBPF and XDP to share default DNS Port among multiple processes.

Check out the recording here and if you want to attend our next event, please consider joining our Slack community .

Team retreat

For the first time in 2025, we took the entire NetBird team offsite to beautiful Gran Canaria, where we spent a week together working on the next major feature of the product. We can’t wait to tell you more about it, so stay tuned for the big reveal.

Webinar

We just wrapped the "How to Securely Access Kubernetes without Port Forwarding and Jump Hosts" webinar last week and we had a great turn out with a lot of really good questions. Check it out here .

🚀 That's it for this month's newsletter! Thank you for being part of the NetBird community. Stay tuned for more updates!
