NetBird's May Newsletter
Written byMisha Bragin · 2024-05-03 · via NetBird - Networking Knowledge Hub - RSS Feed

Hello NetBird Community!

Welcome to May and our monthly newsletter, including some useful new features that our team worked on the past couple of months. Here's what's been happening.

Exit Nodes

Following much anticipation and numerous requests, we've introduced the ability to route internet traffic through exit nodes in one of our latest releases. Currently, this feature is compatible with all operating systems supported by NetBird, except for mobile devices. However, we're actively developing the iOS version, which is expected to be available within the next few weeks!

If you've had the opportunity to try it out, we hope it meets, or even exceeds, your expectations. Let us know!

CrowdStrike Integration

CrowdStrike's Zero Trust Assessment Score (ZTA) helps ensure that only "healthy" devices are permitted into your NetBird network. NetBird's integration with Crowdstrike allows restricting access only to devices managed by the company's IT department. With this recent release, NetBird can assess the ZTA score to determine whether a particular device has an enabled firewall, disk encryption, or a running antivirus and decide whether to allow or block access.

AWS S3 and Firehose integration with NetBird Activity Event Streaming

Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) systems play a critical role in network security by monitoring, detecting, and responding to security threats in real time. By aggregating and analyzing activity across the network, SIEMs help identify anomalous patterns and potential breaches, providing a centralized view of security events.

Route Selection Feature

This implementation was done on the fly but is still an essential feature. While our Network Routes Feature facilitates access to external networks such as VPCs, LANs, or office networks seamlessly, it can encounter challenges when dealing with overlapping ranges among multiple networks. To overcome this, we've implemented the Network Route Selection Feature. This allows users to explicitly choose routes on the client side, ensuring conflict-free connections to the correct networks.

Dashboard View Restrictions

We've updated our dashboard to restrict users with the "user" role from accessing the peers table. This change, previously possible only by adjusting the default rule, is now a standard setting, allowing admins and owners full visibility.

Cloud IDP Synchronization with Okta SCIM

Continuing our efforts to integrate with Identity Providers (IDPs) such as Azure and Google Workspace, we've added Okta integration. This update includes SCIM support, offering a secure method for synchronization.

What's Next on Our Product Roadmap

This month, we are excited to begin work on adding support to control access to routed resources. Visit our roadmap for more on what's coming soon.

🚀 That's a wrap for this month's newsletter! Thanks for being part of our community.
