Apple Pushes Siri Programmers to Adopt AI Coding Tools

Siri AI

Apple plans to send “a significant chunk” of its Siri programmers to a weekslong bootcamp to learn to code using artificial intelligence, The Information reported Wednesday (April 15), citing unnamed sources.

The group behind the voice assistant has not kept up with some other parts of Apple that have embraced AI coding tools, according to the report.

Apple did not immediately reply to PYMNTS’ request for comment.

According to The Information’s report, Apple’s move comes two months before the firm is expected to unveil a new, AI-powered version of Siri. It also follows a reorganization that took place after the company delayed a Siri launch that was scheduled for early 2025.

It was reported March 9 that multiple delays in the development of an updated version of Siri had forced Apple to postpone the long-awaited launch of its smart home display device. The voice assistant is a crucial part of the device’s interface.

On Feb. 26, it was reported that Apple asked a federal judge to dismiss a proposed class action lawsuit alleging, among other things, that the company defrauded shareholders by overstating its progress in adding AI features to Siri. Apple argued in its court filing that there is no proof that it knew it would take longer than expected to add AI features to Siri.

It was reported Feb. 11 that Apple planned to delay the launch of several new capabilities for Siri, with some features that the company expected to introduce in March being pushed back to May or September. The change in plans followed Apple’s discovery that with the new software that was being tested, the voice assistant was making mistakes in processing queries and was taking too long to handle requests.

PYMNTS reported in June 2025 that AI coding assistants cut development time for businesses to bring products to market faster and that the tools enable smaller teams to do tasks that would otherwise cost a lot more and require additional engineers.

In May 2024, PYMNTS reported that AI was transforming the art of computer programming by offering developers a new toolkit to brainstorm ideas, write and refine code, and fix bugs.
