spent in Geneva for Ecma. After getting in Sunday night, Aki and I prioritized finding a place with air conditioning where we could catch up—Switzerland was at the tail end of a brutal heatwave, and I’ve been living under Karl too long to handle any kind of sustained heat well.
On Monday we celebrated Ecma’s 65th anniversary—a milestone few, if any, other ICT standards bodies have reached. Samina and the Secretariat organized a wonderful celebration at the Hotel d’Angleterre that acknowleged and honored Ecma’s storied past while celebrating its vital current work and strong partnerships. It left me feeling excited for what the next half century will have in store for us. I deeply appreciate all of the thoughtfulness and hard work put into the event, and that so many were able to be there to celebrate with us.
I chaired Ecma’s General Assembly the next day. We welcomed several new members, granted two recognition awards, and approved a number of publications, including new editions of ECMA-{262, 370, 402, 419}, as well as a new technical report, ECMA TR/114. We all had dinner together at Monsieur Ador after it wrapped; the stragglers found their way to Little Barrel for a nightcap after dinner.
After meeting with Jochen and Samina Wednesday morning I rushed off to GVA—I needed to get to Rotterdam for a W3C Advisory Board meeting which had already started. ●
