  • IKEA is working with Chupa Chups to make a meatball-flavored lollipop
  • The idea was initially an April Fools joke posted on IKEA's Instagram account
  • A million lollipops will be given away in IKEA stores worldwide next month

IKEA and candy brand Chupa Chups are teaming up to create a meatball-flavored lollipop, which you can try while browsing Billy bookcases and Pax wardrobes next month. The idea started as a silly April Fools joke, but now the purveyor of flat-pack furniture is working with the lollipop-manufacturer to make it a reality.

On April 1, IKEA's UK social media team shared an Instagram post depicting a meatball on a stick with the caption: "We heard you like Swedish candy. So here’s the sweetest mashup no one asked for, but everyone will want to taste!"

It received plenty of attention, including many replies from people disgusted by the idea, but a surprising number of commenters were open to the idea of trying it.

"You joke but this would fix me," wrote one of the company's followers, while another said they were "Kinda disappointed this is a joke."

According to a press release, the lollipop will also include notes of IKEA's popular lingonberry jam, so the taste might be sweeter than you'd initially expect.

The meaty candy will be given away in selected IKEA stores next month — though interestingly, shoppers in Sweden will miss out. Keep an eye on IKEA's Instagram account to find out when you'll be able to savor the meaty candy yourself. A million of the lollipops will be produced and distributed free worldwide, so you'll need to be quick to get your hands (and tongue) on one.
