Alone Season 13 was highly anticipated, but when it comes rebranded Alone: World Championship, then it's truly stepped its level up.

Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo may be brilliant footballers, but how would they fare on a freezing, lonely night in the the Arctic Circle? It's certainly one way to settle the debate. Alone has got into the World Cup 2026 spirit not – sadly – by banishing the beautiful game's most pampered superstars to the Canadian wilderness, but by calling season 13 itsWorld Championship.

The survival show has broadened its remit a little wider than usual, by admitting contestants as far-flung as Australia, New Zealand, Wales, Slovenia and Portugal. These include 24-year-old whitewater kayak instructor Poldi Waldmann-Moloney and 35-year-old biologist Ziga Ogorelec.

They, along with a quartet of Americans and a solitary Canadian, have one objective: survive for as long as they can in the extreme environs of the Richardson Mountains straddling Yukon and Canada’s Northwest Territories – preferably without having to be medically evacuated.

They'll be completely alone, which means that in addition to exploring the area, building a shelter, foraging, hunting, staving off illness, staying sane and not freezing or starving to death, they'll have to document themselves.

Oh, and the Richardson Mountains are home to grizzly bears, wolves, and moose, and winter is just beginning to close in.
