The Pitt season 3: key information

- Season 3 renewed during the start of season 2's run
- Production scheduled to begin in June 2026
- No release window confirmed but we can assume January 2027 target
- Supriya Ganesh leaving, while Ayesha Harris has been promoted to series regular
- All other main cast members expected to return
- Third season will explore "doctors benefitting from patients"

Season 2 isn't even out of patient processing yet, but we're all already fixated on The Pitt season 3. I mean, who can blame us?

Dr. Al-Hashimi (Sepideh Moafi) broke down in tears in the parking lot, and Dr. Robby (Noah Wyle) tried to leave for his three month sabbatical, but instead ended up with Baby Jane Doe.

On top of that, Mel (Taylor Dearden) was struggling with her sister's independence, Santos (Isa Briones) had hit burnout point, and Whitaker (Gerran Howell) wholesomely tried to be a good boyfriend to his new girlfriend... and her baby.

In short, it's still all kicking off. But what do we actually know about The Pitt season 3's return to HBO Max?

Considering season 1 was released in January 2025 and season 2 in January 2026, we can hope for The Pitt season 3 to be released in January 2027.

With a quick production turnaround time and with filming set to begin in June 2026, creators seem to be aiming for one series every year.

The Pitt season 3 trailer: is there one?

Not yet. Best case, we can expect first teasers to be released at the end of 2026.

  • Isa Briones as Dr. Trinity Santos
  • Gerran Howell as Dr. Dennis Whitaker
  • Shabana Azeez as Victoria Javadi

  • Lucas Iverson as Med Student James Ogilvie
  • Laetitia Hollard as Nurse Emma Nolan
  • Charles Baker as John Digby

Supriya Ganesh, who plays senior resident Dr. Samira Mohan, will not be returning for season 3.

"It’s an inevitability that’s going to happen every season with this show because as writers we’re hard pressed to figure out what a lapse of time we can have and keep most of the ensemble together realistically," Wyle told Variety during PaleyFest.

"Emergency rooms have a high revolving door,” he continued. “As always, we try to bring in new characters or promote from within as we go through these cast changes and try to keep the storylines fresh, but obviously Supriya has been a huge part of our show since the beginning."

Creator R. Scott Gemmill added: "Part of the nature of the business of a teaching hospital is that people come, they learn, and they leave In order to try to be truthful to the process, we’re turning over our cast."

Ayesha Harris, who plays night-shift resident Dr. Parker Ellis, will be a series regular for season 3.

Fiona Dourif has also seemingly cemented, Cassie McKay's return, telling us, "Cassie wants to roll until the wheels fall off, I'll tell you that.

"I think it is shocking how fun The Pitt is to shoot. Not every TV show is like that. It really runs like a machine in the best way.

"It's rare in Hollywood to get to shoot something in Los Angeles with every department head having worked in the business for 35 odd years. It's a really expertly made show, and because of that, it's just very fun to work on. I feel very, extraordinarily lucky."

The Pitt season 3 plot predictions

We don't have a lot of information on this yet, but Wyle also said during PaleyFest: "The thesis of season 1 is the doctor is the patient. Season 2, doctors don’t make very good patients. Season 3, doctors benefit from being patients.”

There is also going to be a four-month time jump between seasons 2 and 3. Gemmill explained to TV Line: "We're only going to do a four-month jump. We'll start in November. That serves a lot of purposes for us. It gives us some cold-weather scenarios, but also allows us to keep people a little longer who would normally be moving on, if we want.

"Sometimes those big jumps aren't always ideal. There's a lot of information you have to catch up on, so this way it's less of a dump."

Gemmill also hints that Dr. Robby won't return to the ER immediately, adding " In those final moments with the baby, Robby finally puts her down and decides to go. Part of it is he feels he has to go now because he's talked about it for so long. One of the things we play in season 3 is that he comes back, but he doesn't come back to the hospital right away."

Will there be more season of The Pitt?

Because The Pitt has set itself up as easy to produce and extremely returnable, we could eventually see it having the same longevity as its predecessor, ER.

However, nothing is confirmed at this stage... but watch this space, that's all I'm saying.
