NordProtect rebrands as Coveron — here's what it me...
Mark Gill · 2026-05-15 · via Latest from TechRadar in News

  • From May 26, NordProtect will be known as Coveron
  • Existing users will not be impacted by the change
  • The security service works as a standalone tool or as a VPN complement

From May 26, 2026, Nord Security’s identity protection service NordProtect will officially rebrand as Coveron, adopting a fresh visual identity while maintaining the same core functionality users have come to rely on.

There’s no need for existing customers to take any action, as the transition is designed to be seamless. Existing accounts and subscriptions will be automatically transferred to the new branding. The only changes users will notice are on billing statements and within the service interface, where the name will reflect the new Coveron identity.

The rebrand comes amid a broader push by cybersecurity companies to bundle identity theft protection alongside traditional VPN utilities. While NordVPN focuses on securing internet traffic, Coveron acts as a separate layer targeting personal data exposure and identity fraud.

Under the hood: What Coveron actually does

Coveron is a comprehensive identity theft and cyber protection service developed by Nord Security, the team behind NordVPN. It functions as a dual-layer defense system combining active monitoring with financial insurance.

The monitoring component continuously scans for signs of misuse regarding your sensitive personal information. This includes checking the dark web for exposed data, tracking credit activity, and alerting you to potential security threats across the personal details you register with the service.

When suspicious activity is detected, Coveron provides immediate alerts with specific details, helping users understand the nature of the threat and the steps required to mitigate it. Beyond detection, the service offers substantial financial protection through a partnership with HSB, a major global specialty insurance underwriter.

This coverage extends far beyond identity theft, protecting users against cyber extortion, online fraud, and cyberattacks. The policy includes up to $1 million for identity theft recovery, $50,000 for cyber extortion, and up to $10,000 each for online fraud and cyberattacks.

Why identity protection matters now

In its blog post on the rebrand, NordVPN points to recent data from the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) that shows a sharp rise in reports of identity theft, climbing from 1.1 million cases in 2024 to 1.3 million by the end of 2025. Credit card fraud and loan fraud remain the most frequently reported types.

While a VPN is important for securing your internet connection and privacy, it can’t prevent data breaches that occur on third-party websites or protect you if your credentials are already compromised. Coveron fills this gap by acting as a safety net. It provides continuous monitoring to catch issues early and offers financial recovery support if the worst occurs.

Coveron is available as a standalone service, meaning you don’t need to be a NordVPN subscriber to access this level of protection. Whether you pair it with NordVPN or use it independently, adding this layer of coverage helps anyone with a credit history or active online presence stay safe as cyber threats continue to get smarter.
