The Ides of July.
Netscape was laid off today. Well, not the whole thing. But most (if not all) of the Mozilla developers there were told to disappear.
What gets me most is that a lot of them really cared. They cared enough about what they were doing to spend their free time on it, working on projects they wouldn't get paid for and helping strangers find their way. They spent sleepless nights coding, evenings at their desk. They talked and joked and passed techspeak around, went to dinner at Denny's, and ran tests when they got back. These were people who loved their jobs and did them well, and IMO the most despicable thing AOL did was to take that away.
Nice work if you can get it.
