






















AI infrastructure is shifting from peak compute optimization to sustained efficiency. For the past several years, industry attention has centered on the AI training arms race, measured by GPU counts, parameter scale, and escalating compute budgets. This phase isn’t over, but it no longer defines where enterprise value is created.
Value is increasingly realized at inference, where models are deployed, queried, and embedded into operational systems. Inference economics are fundamentally different from those of training: They are persistent rather than bursty, distributed rather than centralized, and tightly bound to enterprise data.
As retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), fine-tuning, and model distillation become foundational techniques, storage moves from being a supporting layer to a design variable. Embeddings, checkpoints, duplicated datasets, and governance artifacts expand storage footprints in cumulative ways that training-centric architectures didn’t anticipate. In this environment, storage density becomes less a specification and more a determinant of long-term infrastructure cost and optimization.
